School Tutoring
So you have no budget but you want to make a difference? How are your math skills? What about your ability to read? If you know anything about phonics you could be a home run hitter in the world of school tutoring because that is about all that you need.
At New Heights Church we offer tutoring to the three schools in our area with the lowest per capita income.
How did we begin? First we decided on a time. We do it during our Wednesday night services that we already offer. We tutor for an hour during a time in which people had already planned to be in the building.
We then took flyers to the different target schools, introduced ourselves and what we wanted to do, and then made sure each teacher had flyers along with the office.
We also did a press release for the local paper that ran for several weeks. We targeted about a month into school because it is at this point that teachers may notice kids falling behind.
The flyer instructs parents to call the church building and we take their names, subject, class, school and teacher. We then cross the student need by those signed up to tutor. If we don't have an available tutor we apologize and encourage them to check back during second semester.
Obviously this can be as small or as big as your tutoring base will allow. The beauty is other then running some copies on colored paper we have no hard costs.
It only cost time but if you check out the video portion of the site you will find testimonies of students who have been blessed by this ministry.
