Do you know of someone with a passion? No really any passion. I know of a woman who loves to cook so what do you think she is trying to do? She started thinking about all of the students on government supported lunches who will have not free school meal during the summer.
She said to herself, what can we do for these children because often times they go hungry during the summer months. Now it is a daunting task, feeding every child in a community and her church simply doesn't have the resources. Well why not target one school? The one with the highest number of students that qualify or the one with the most children that attend your church or...
You see it is not that the need isn't there or even a willingness but often times it is that people don't think about these things or even start to see their passion as something that could help those who are less fortunate.
Some of those who come to our fellowship say that they had no idea these needs existed. They thought our community was middle class. You may be thinking that your community is middle class or upper middle class and we don't have these types of needs. Well do you want me to be blunt? If your community has a McDonald's with people behind the counter who are not either in high school or retired you have people in need.
So find a person with passion and redirect it towards those in need. The same woman who loves cooking could have used that passion to cook for the ladies bible class. The same person who could plan a wedding shower for the women at the pregnancy resource center could have planned the shower for a member who is having a child.
Do you see what I mean? We can't wait for everyone to get it. We can't even expect that by simply pointing out these facts that everyone will change. That doesn't matter. We just need to start. Take one person doing one thing and see if they can view it in the context of Jesus hands and feet.
Then what? Well share it with others because not everyone will get it until they read about it. Record video testimonies of the people being changed, show slides of happy children receiving something for the first time.
On a recent Sunday we showed video testimonies of people we help with our Medical Mission for the uninsured. What do you think happened? I had people coming and saying I want to be a part of that. They don't even have to be from your church. Use others testimonies to get people on board, to inspire.
A recent study in the world we live in said that people who serve others are happier and more content. Why let them steal what we already know? Just take one step because this not only can work it will work if God's Spirit is behind it.
Think of the story that you can tell when you say I was a part of this movement. The beauty of this is that we are not just talking about it or writing about it or saying this should really happen. We are sharing and doing something about it.
Invite your friends, help someone with a passion see it with new eyes, be the hands and feet.
