Hands and Feet

people committed to putting faith into action.

I grew up attending a church that stressed that faith was more than just words, it was actions. They talked a lot about the fact that it couldn't be faith only and they used James 2:24. Okay, but it also seems that they used that more to argue theology than anything practical or connected to the text.

In context the verse is talking about actions that help those without. In James 2:14-17 you find that the actions that James is discussing are those that help others in need. He specifically talks about food and clothing. So I grew up attending a church that railed against anyone who claimed you didn't need actions who never really talked about the specific actions discussed. Were we helping those in need? Not in any visible way.

Well I rejoice that today the church is reawakening to the idea of a faith that is shown by actions towards those in need. I am excited to see what is happening and in the end I think that if we work together to inspire, inform and educate we can see even more acts of faith.

This site is being built for such a purpose. It is being built to give people a place to learn more, grow more and be inspired more. The goal is to build a community where people can get ideas to impact their own community, a place where we learn how to be the hands and feet of Jesus together.

It is interesting that when Jesus talks about identifying sheep and goats in Matthew 25:31-46 He doesn't talk about buildings or theology but instead draws a line based on ones willingness to help those in need.

Let us learn together and find ways to offer a cup of cold water to the least of these.
